John D Greene (1932-2019) had a 30 year career on Wall Street , from which he retired in 1987 and returned to painting and sculpture , which he’d always explored, and enjoyed another 30 year career as an artist.
He loved surface , applying paint and then scraping it off , and his images were all imagined landscapes. He never titled his paintings, instead preferring that the viewer see in it whatever he or she wanted. His preferred medium was encaustic ( beeswax), and the color field series, of which this is an example, was his last.
His work can be seen at Windham Fine Arts, Windham, NY or by appointment at (917) 509-3579, and on his website http://www.JDGreeneArt.com
Greene moved to Pine Plains in 1976; his wife Gwen is President of the Stissing Center Board of Directors.
